We made it everyone! I have survived the first full month since surgery. Monday was 4 weeks, but I decided since it was so close, I would just update today.
I am officially able to eat solid foods now. I can barely eat anything if it’s solid though. Maybe 2 ounces. I still supplement with protein shakes and still have soft foods. Things like scrambled eggs with cheese, protein shakes, and Greek yogurt are still my friends.
I’ve tried a bunch of different foods recently.
- Grilled/Baked chicken: tolerate well
- Refried beans: pre-made does not sit well.
- Hummus: Homemade works well. I don’t know about store brand
- Tuna: tolerate well
- Shrimp: tolerate well
- Scallops: Tolerate OK. A bit burpy after
- Chicken wings: DO NOT EAT. Very upset tummy
- Scrambled Eggs: tolerate well
- Deli Turkey: tolerate well
- Cheddar Cheese: tolerate well
- Turkey Bacon: tolerate Well
- Cream cheese: I don’t think I’ve had enough to make an educated call.
- Yogurt: tolerate well
- Ground Beef: Tolerate well
I am definitely struggling though. I am eating too fast, I am not getting enough protein most days, and I’m not getting enough water most days. I also need to exercise more. Realistically, I don’t know what I am going to do. I really think that I need somebody to hold me accountable. Like I definitely go to the gym when I know that there is somebody there waiting for me.
But I mean, I don’t need to go to the gym. I have the gym downstairs in the garage. What I just need to do is get up early and go downstairs to exercise. My hope is to do 30 min of exercise downstairs in the morning, and then either take a family walk, or do DDP Yoga when Beatrix goes to bed. I know that that is a lot, but everything that I am going to start out with is low impact. I do want to purchase some weights that are lighter: 2, 5, 10, 20 lbs. They are so freaking expensive though-because I want to make sure I get something quality that lasts for a while. We are talking a range between $10 and $50 per set. I mean, I guess that’s not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but I really just can’t afford it right now.
I am also super tired still, especially since Bea got sick right when I went back to work, so I didn’t sleep particularly well until the last few days. But I really need to stop making excuses. Even if I just go for a walk, it is the movement that is important.
So now that I’ve survived the first month, I think it’s a good idea to set some goals/guidelines for this month.
- Only step on the scale 1x a week (on Monday’s)
- Drink 60oz of water/sugar free drink per day
- Walk 4,000 steps a day (final goal 10,000)
- Exercise 30 min, 3x a week
- Sleep 8 hours a night
I think that these are reasonable goals. I know that people say 10,000 steps a day but, many days I only walk 2-3,000 steps a day. So my goal for this month is to consistently hit 3,000 steps. Once I can do this, I will up the number.
So yeah. I feel good. Incisions are healing well. I’m sill itchy sometimes but it’s much better overall. I’m still losing weight. Everything is good.
I’m going to do a deeper dive into some new recipes/ cookbooks this month, so I’ll see you then.
